KateOS user public relations guide

KateOS is a dynamically developing Linux distribution. It combines the newest technologies with ease of usage, and is a fairly practical system. This is what makes it unique. However, it does have its weaknesses. Two of the most significant ones are a relatively small popularity of the system in global Linux distributions rankings, and an amount of dedicated software packages which some may find unimpressive. The first mentioned downside means that not many people talk about this distro, so there's not much guides or reviews. That in turn has a bad effect on the potential number of developers and contributors. KateOS is not a large project. The second mentioned downside - number of dedicated packages - makes usage of the sytem difficult for some KateOS users. Many of them have to compile programs from source in order to do their work. That's why increasing the number of developers and packages should be a concern of EVERY KateOS user. And one should do what they can to help eliminate those weaknesses. It might surprise You, but the best and practical means of helping are really the easiest ones. It might take a minute of Your time but have great effects in the future. That's why we'd like to encourage You to read on.

As an everyday KateOS user, You should...

 • Promote KateOS in Your signature on every forum You are a part of (not just the ones about Linux). Below is an example code which You can use:

or

<a href="http://kateos.org/"><img alt="KateOS userbar" src="kateubbydamilog5.png";>

Same rule goes to links which are placed on users' homepages - if he or she has one. KateOS logos which may be of use, can be found here

 • Promote KateOS on certain websites, creating short articles about it. Two lists of web portals should help You decide where to send Your article. 1) Portals/vortals/web pages on Linux, 2) Rating of websites about operating systems.
 • Ensure that the articles are up to date with the system and are accurate. Moreover, if a ranking or list of distros does not mention KateOS at all, You should do what it's needed to put Kate there - for instance preparing a short summary of the system and publishing it. Same goes for the recently popular disto comparisions.
 • English speaking users can contribute to the KateOS WikiDoc, as currently the English part of it is a bit lacking. There are still many articles in Polish, that need translating.

As a software package developer with access to Pkgportal, You should...

 • You definitely should place an information about the availability of any application - which You've prepared for use in KateOS - on the homepage of a given project. An example of a proper information can be found on the RSIBreak page.
Packages for KateOS are available at KateOS Pkgportal. You may enable community repositories in /etc/updateservers file or using Realm

Placing such an information is very important, and try to do so when preparing a package for Pkgportal. If a need to mail the software author or webmaster arises - do it. It would be even better if You also included a short guide to installing the package.

 • You can prepare packages which You don't need, but others do. A wishlist of packages which the users need can be found here.

Do Your best to promote our distribution, and good luck!
