Microsoft fonts

From WikiDoc

Some people really enjoy the Microsoft Core Truetype fonts for some reason. Other than just liking them, there are a few reasons why one would want to install them:

  • WINE: Windows programs running in WINE look like crap without the right fonts.
  • Web pages: Let's face it. The majority of web pages are made to be viewed with Microsoft eyes.

That aside, the Microsoft fonts are easy to install on KateOS. To do so, just install the package msttfonts:

# updateos -i msttfonts

Keep in mind that due to licensing restrictions, the fonts themselves are not included in the package. Instead, the package contains a script to download the "official" Windows installers for the fonts and extract them. Because of this, the package will appear to download quickly but take an abnormal amount of time at the "Installing package" stage. This is because it is downloading and installing the fonts at this stage. Hang tight, updateos has not frozen!
